Maria Román:
Couture and Fashion Accessory Designer
It was 1996 when she developed and confectioned her first line of
accessories for women, which gained quick recognition and acceptance
in diverse upscale boutiques throughout Puerto Rico, including:
Paty's Boutique, Ji Blanc Boutique, Romi Atelier and Imperio Salón,
among others.In 1998, María
Román participated in the prestigious International Fashion Boutique
Show, held at New York's Jacob Javitz Center. Little did she know
that launching her work in New York would be the beginning of many
recognitions.
The following year, Ms. Román was
recognized by the Board of Directors of the 25th National Coffee
Festival, in her native town of Yauco, as one of the town's most
illustrious people.
Since then her accessory lines
have been featured in runway fashion shows by models from Lisa Thon
(2000 & 2001), Luis Antonio (2001 & 2002) and Miriam Budet (2005).
Upon establishing herself as
premier designer of fashion accessories in Puerto Rico, María Román
decided to further enhance her studies at Lisa Thon's Design Academy
and Fashion Center.
In 2006, María was invited to
participate in the Novel Fashion Group show in Puerto Rico. Soon
after she was invited to showcase her accessories at the Orlando
Fashion and Beauty Show in Downtown Disney, earning recognition in
La Prensa, one of Florida's premier Spanish-language publications.
Following her presentation in
Downtown Disney, María Román was recognized by Dr. Sylvia Caceres,
Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration, for
representing her island with pride and artful contributions.
Since 2006, María Román has
received numerous accolades and publicity by Univisión, CMD
Magazine, and on January 2007 El Nuevo Día newspaper covered the
launch of her new fashion and accessory line, NAMOR, in Orlando,
Florida. And that's not all— Revista Imagen also covered her line in
an article for their August 2007 issue.
In August 2007, María Román was
interviewed by Sandra Carrasquillo from Orlando's 1440 FM in her
section Mujer de Hoy and she is participating in the Discovery Your
Beauty fashion event produced by AJ Photography and Jose Betancourt.
